Grocery stores, ferries, and the big city

Grocery success!

Grocery stores

We spent Tuesday knocking off more of the items on our To Do list. First off, a trip to the grocery store. I looked up one online that looked to be right up the street from the train station and we headed off confidently! However, we soon came to an empty plaza. It was really pretty, but it didn't help much with the grocery situation. We kept wandering around and eventually noticed some busy stairs heading under a building. Well, what do you know, but there was a whole shopping area underground! We were pretty dang proud of ourselves for figuring this one out!

Ferries

Next on the agenda was heading back to the CBD to pick up my phone and go by the immigration department. Our roommates had told us that the ferry was a convenient and fun way to get there, so we decided to check it out. We walked down the hill from the apartment and waited a few minutes on the wharf.

No, that is not me in the picture
After a few minutes, our ferry came chugging up.

Isn't it cute?
And away we went! It was super fun!

The big city

The rest of the day we spent getting around the city. We visited the phone store, the immigration department, and Pyrmont. Pyrmont is a subdivision where we're thinking about looking for apartments, so we took the monorail up to it to get a feel for the area. It was a pretty area and very close to Darling Harbor (which seemed to have a lot of fun stuff going on), so we'll see how it stacks up to the other areas once we've visited them.

A brave little Toaster in the CBD
All of this required getting around in the CBD, and Toby & I remarked to each other a few times how this was such an unusual place for us to be. We're not big city people: Toby's visited New York and we've been to San Francisco and Atlanta together, but getting off the tourist path is definitely out of our comfort zone.

It will be interesting to see how well we adapt to city living and see if we are truly city people at-heart!

    1. Thank you! It's been a weird week not doing all the usual things like staff & whatnot. I really miss all my work people, but the days are so busy I don't get too homesick. Thanks for leaving a comment - glad I'm doing OK with the blogging! =)

  2. Re: the blogging, the ony thing is I can't seem to follow you on Blogger, but I've just loaded it into GReader - the folow by e-mail doesn't seem to work. But that could just be me. You should definitely look into that in your copious, copious spare time.....

    Take care!
