After a lot of research, we decided to ship our things to Sydney using a company called UPakWeShip. Like the name suggests, we had to pack all of our things, deliver them to a shipping terminal, and then they do the rest. We decided to use one of their crate services, which gave us 150 cubic feet of space for shipping our stuff. This sounds like a lot, but when you see it, it sure doesn't look like a lot!
We packed all of our things in boxes, and then planned a day we could take it all to the terminal and load the crate there. Since we weren't going to see the crate before the day we packed it, we taped off a practice area in the guest bedroom.
Then it was time for loading everything up and driving to the shipping terminal. First, we moved everything downstairs.

Easy part done! |
Mom and Dad came to help us, which was amazing!! We got everything loaded in Dad's truck and Michelle's trailblazer and headed down the road to the terminal.
The terminal was no-frills to say the least. A forklift driver came out and moved all our things into a warehouse. Here's our pile of stuff in the middle of the warehouse.

Our stuff was definitely out of place |
Then they brought the crate around. I had a sick feeling in my stomach when I saw it coming around the piles of stuff -- it looked
so small!

We were all a little dubious that our stuff would fit |
We got to work - well really, Dad and Toby got to work since there really wasn't room for all of us to help. So Mom and I supervised.

Here are the guys in the official Burwinkle-Minton Movers uniforms.

Very coordinated! |
I was pretty nervous as we were loading. I didn't think there was any way everything would fit. But, we ended up having a little room to spare!

Done! |
Now everything is ready for its 12-week journey across the sea! I'll report back on the state of our belongings once we are reunited with them.
Thank you, Mom & Dad, for making our first crate packing experience so fast & easy!
What I want to know: did the Yoda make it in? :P
ReplyDeleteHaha, we weren't so sure he would survive, so no, he's not traveling the ocean this time!
