A low-key weekend

After the busy-ness of the past few weekends, T and I made a conscience effort to keep this weekend less full.

On Friday I went to a going away lunch for the girl I'm replacing. We went to a Chinese restaurant, and they served these cute rice balls for dessert:

It was hard to eat their cute little faces!

On Saturday we didn't do too much in the morning. Lots of skyping and then I did some Christmas baking. Toby was a big fan of the peppermint bark, which turned out very pretty if I do say so myself.

In the afternoon, the Draegers invited us out to their house. They live in a suburb just a little north of us, but Scott came and picked us up in their car so we skipped the adventure of trying to get there on public transport. It was the first time Toby had been in a car since we left, and he experienced the same surreal feeling that I did a few weeks ago in Brisbane! It's amazing how something so familiar can feel so strange.

We had a lovely pizza dinner and a fun evening just chatting about life in Sydney, Christmas plans, etc. It was really nice to have dinner in someone's home - there's really no substitute for that! They have been so kind and gracious to us since we've been here.

We had planned to go to a soccer game that night, but it was raining lightly by the time we got back to the house. So we unanimously voted to skip it. Instead, we walked down to the Harbor Bridge, where a local church had organized a carol sing under the bridge. Everyone had come out with their blankets and lawn chairs, and just camped out to sing carols all evening. It was charming.

It was a lovely way to get into the Christmas spirit!

Sunday was more skyping, more baking, and some chores thrown in. It was a warm breezy day, so in the afternoon we decided to enjoy the weather a little bit. We hopped on the ferry and rode over to Pyrmont Bay to look at the Christmas decorations.

On the way, our ferry got stopped while a cruise ship was leaving the harbor. Tugs were turning it around, and it was a really tight fit!

But it got turned around successfully, and we passed ways on our way into the harbor.

We had a lovely time walking around Pyrmont Bay and Cockle Bay Wharf. I'll put up the pictures of Christmas decorations this week, cause there were a bunch!!

We closed out our day with Christmas carols on Pandora and a delicious gnocchi dinner, courtesy of T. It was a great weekend, and restful for both Toby and the resident activities coordinator. =)
