Gamla Stan, Stockholm

We first hit Gamla Stan when we arrived on Friday. We just happened to run into one of Michelle's colleagues, who graciously took our one and only non-selfie group shot!

Most of our time in Gamla Stan was just spent strolling around the streets, checking out the buildings and alleys.

It wasn't all just wandering the streets. We went into some great little shops, like this candy shop.

And a boutique where you could choose colored globes to make a custom set of string lights.

We also found a Western store that reminded us of home!

At the end of the old town section is the Royal Castle. We learned that it's the biggest castle in the world that's still used by a king. The King of Sweden uses part of the castle as his workplace, but parts of it are open for tourists. We didn't get to go through it, but it's plenty impressive just from the outside.

There were also some of the expected tourist shops for souvenirs and such. But they weren't overwhelming, and the area overall still felt like a secluded little city. We spent a couple hours there on Friday afternoon when we arrived, and then all morning again on Sunday. And I'd still go back again at the drop of a hat!
