This past Saturday, work had arranged a barbecue for the expats group. It was at a beach, and the idea was for us to get to see what a traditional Australian Christmas barbecue is like. So of course this was something we wanted to go to!
The barbecue was at a beach reserve called Parsley Bay Reserve. It was an unusual beach in that it was far back in a cove, so the water was very gentle. There was also a shark net, so all around a perfect beach for kids and Europeans not used to the ocean!

Heading to the bbq! |
It was a lovely day for a barbecue.
The caterers were awesome! We got fun little appetizers to start.
And then the customary snags (sausages) and some chicken grilled up on the barbie! (Along with some salads and grilled portobellos.) Then there was another round on the grill to make burgers. It was a great spread!
There were brownies for dessert, all decorated up for us expats.
A few people braved the water later in the afternoon - I was not one of them because I didn't think it was that warm! The rest of the picnic goers hung out on the blankets & chairs and generally enjoyed feeling like Aussies for the day!
