Sweden day 8: Djurgården and Stockholm central

Our first day in Stockholm was supposed to be a nice day. So we planned to fit in as many outdoor activities as we could. First, though, we had to find breakfast. One thing we quickly found out is that none of the cafes in Soderman opened early. And by early, I mean by 9 or 10. We managed to find one that was open when we headed out a little bit after 9, but that was it. Soderman definitely seemed to be more of a late night destination!

Then we were off to Skansen! Skansen is the world's largest outdoor museum. It focuses on Swedish history and culture, so there are lots of old dwellings you can look at from various periods of history. There are also Scandanavian animals!

It seemed that we were there at an off-peak time, because there weren't many demonstrations happening or too many people there. But the turning leaves made it beautiful, so I thought it was a great time for being there!

At Skansen, Toby and I also discovered the magic that is candied almonds! We'd seen a couple street vendors mixing these up in a giant vat in Copenhagen, but when Chris bought us a couple bags here, I couldn't believe what we'd been missing out on! They warmed up my hands AND were delicious! Win, win!

After we had learned all we needed to at Skansen, we headed a bit further inland to have lunch at Rosendals Trädgård, a little cafe inside a greenhouse.

Then it was off to do a boat tour of the Stockholm canals. More pics of that coming up!

On the way to the boat ride, we stopped for a little rest in a park area. This picture made me laugh: notice the difference in the crowd in the shade versus the sun!

We closed out the day with games and ice cream in our fun Stockholm apartment!
