Round about town this week

This week I tried to take more time to stop and smell the roses. Or the marigolds, or petunias, or whatever is in these fabulous planters in Martin Place!

The week started out with Super Bowl Monday. It was weird to be at work while the Super Bowl was on - it was way too early for beer and fun snacks. So I had boring meetings and work instead. But the game was on in the pool room so I stopped in a couple times to watch.

There weren't too many people around by the end of the game. I guess cause the game was a bit too sad. Poor Peyton!

On Tuesday there was a fun fitness exhibit at Martin Place. And a place to sit down and eat lunch in the "grass."

On Thursday, Esther and I walked down to Darling Harbour at lunchtime. The city has lots of things going on for the "Month of Love" so we went to check them out!

They're also doing work on the exhibiton center and as part of the theme of the month, the city is encouraging people to write messages of love on the wall. People have really responded and the wall looks awesome!

We walked back through the gardens on the way back to the office.

That night after work, T came by the office and we walked up to check out a gourmet grocery shop pop-up in Martin Place. It's a pop-up shop from a store called Salt Meats Cheese - how cute is that!?

Also, if you've ever needed a lifetime supply of Nutella, you can buy it here!

And on the homefront, Toby has been displeased with the quality of the cartoons that he can pick up over the air. So now we have this on Saturday mornings:

Do you think this is a subtle move to try and persuade me to let us pay for cable? =)

A busy week

After our lovely three day weekend, it was time for a busy, busy week. But some fun parts snuck in too.

On Thursday my work team went out for drinks at the Opera House bar. I felt like a glamorous person, and it was a fun evening to be in a lovely place.

One with me in it...

It was also Chinese New Year this week, which meant big celebrations in the city. Our work celebrated too with lucky red envelopes for everyone!

On Friday evening, T and I went up to North Sydney for the night festival they do every Friday during the summer. They have live music and food stands - all you bring is a blanket and a fun drink and you're set for a fun evening out! So we went and grabbed some dinner: I got a crepe and Toby went for the "Very Vegetarian" dish at the Chinese food tent. (With a name like "Very Vegetarian," how could you not try it?!)

It was a lovely, relaxing start to the weekend!

Picnic on a Monday

We took full advantage of our extra Monday holiday. It was hard to believe I'd normally be at work on that day! =)

We started with a coffee and a pastry from the Kirribilli Village bakery.

Then we packed up a picnic and took the ferry over to Balmain. We spent the afternoon looking out over the harbour, watching all the boats and people out for the holiday.

We spent the afternoon reading (and T writing).

It was a pretty great way to spend an afternoon not at the office!

Aussie Aussie Aussie!

This weekend was a long weekend because it was Australia Day weekend! I've decided that Australia Day might be one of my favorite Australian holidays. Everyone is so happy to be out and enjoying the summer weather. And the more over the top and cheesy the Aussie accessories, the better. What's not to love?!

The stores in Kirribilli got into the spirit.

As did these people.

In the morning, I went out on a walk to Circular Quay. Two big cruise ships were anchored in the Harbour for the celebrations.

The morning was cloudy, but the sun was peeking through.

In the afternoon, T and I went out. A pop-up store opened in Milsons Point station with all the necessities for Australia Day.

We decided we probably didn't need any flag-themed accessories, but we walked up onto the bridge to watch the ferry race.

Then we walked down to the point to watch the 21 gun salute and a fighter jet flyover. We got to see the guys loading and firing the cannons. This dad in front of us had two little girls who did not like the noise AT ALL.

In the evening, we headed out to the Domain. As the final performance in the Sydney Festival, the Sydney Orchestra performed a free concert in the domain. We and about a thousand others packed a picnic, got a spot in the grass, and watched the show.

The final piece was awesome: it had music, cannons, and fireworks! Amazing!

It was a pretty great Australia Day!
