Because these people like to travel and do activities like me, we had a jam-packed agenda for the weekend. There were even multiple alternative activities for many parts of our stay, so it was certain we were going to have fun!
One of the best parts was getting in plenty of animal time. All the four-legged friends seemed excited to have people in the guest bedroom, so we had visitors every morning.
And there was lots of consternation when Aunt Kaye was not on the same floor as the rest of us.
But there were more than enough pats to go around for the weekend!
Out of doors, there were so many things happening! We went to see Megan play beach volleyball on Saturday at Ocean Beach. The weather was just perfect for sitting on the beach, and we really managed to distinguish ourselves as a family by two of the three of us falling over into the sand during our time in the audience.
We had also scheduled in to go sea kayaking at La Jolla. I think Holly and I had a somewhat romanticised idea of what this would be like, but after walking down to the beach before our scheduled time and seeing lots of kayaks tip over, we were a little more realistic about how it would go. The goal of the trip was to go into the sea caves, but the wind and sea were too rough for that. So after paddling around a bit and getting to see a dolphin and a sea lion, we made our way back in. The wind and sea were pretty rough at that point, and sure enough, almost everyone in the tour group tipped over. It was a cold, adrenaline-filled adventure!

We had big plans for our Saturday night: we were going to see the San Diego Symphony play the score to The Wizard of Oz while the movie played. We dressed on theme as much as possible.
Aunt Kaye took us to a really cute French restaurant in downtown before the show, and then we jumped into a free cab/golf cart to get back to the hall. It was a new experience for all of us, and we weren't quite sure what to expect. But it's a little business that cars people all around the downtown in exchange for seeing ads on the ride. It worked out great!
The show was fantastic, and we had a really fun time. Of course we had to try the themed cocktails at intermission.
And the Wizard of Oz theme continued by happenstance the next morning. We headed back downtown to a surprise brunch destination: a New Zealand-themed restaurant in the heart of San Diego. It's called the Queenstown Public House, and it was so cute!
They just happened to be doing a fundraiser with a Wizard of Oz theme, so we felt like it was only right that it would cap off our weekend.
Even with all our gallivanting, the best parts of the weekend for me were hanging out at home, enjoying the lovely garden, San Diego sun, New Zealand wine, family dinner, and hanging out. I couldn't have asked for a better Easter weekend! <3
